Attention South Middle School Parents:
Device Check In (iPad, Brick, Cord) is Wednesday, May 20 Noon-6pm and Thursday, May 21 7am-1pm.
Drop-off will resemble our locker pick-up from last month. You will also drop-off any other school equipment: band instruments, show choir clothing, library books, classroom textbooks, etc. Thank you!
The School Board Election slated for May 5, 2020 will not take place. The School Board had two vacancies which were filled by the two candidates that filed petitions. Mike Knudson and Linda Heerde will be starting their new 3 year terms in July 2020.
This upcoming week is Teacher Appreciation Week, May 4th-8th. Help us celebrate our South Middle School teachers by showing how much they mean to us, especially during this time of distance learning. Please see the attached image for ideas on each day of the week. Thank you!
A REMINDER: The HSD Child Nutrition Department is modifying it's Grab & Go program to a more convenient method with our new 𝙒𝙚𝙚𝙠𝙡𝙮 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙗 & 𝙂𝙤 meal schedule!
🍎 Starting the week of May 4th, we will be moving to ᴏɴᴄᴇ ᴀ ᴡᴇᴇᴋ ᴘɪᴄᴋ-ᴜᴘ on WEDNESDAYS ONLY.
🍏 You will be able to pick up 5 breakfast and 5 lunch meals for each child between the ages of 0-18 each Wednesday.
⚠️ To help protect our staff and to make the process smooth please have your trunk or rear door open so staff can place the meals in there.
⚠️ Following Governor Noem’s press conference to present South Dakota’s Back to Normal plan, we want to communicate that the HSD plan for the remainder of the current school year has not changed. We will continue remote learning through the end of the current year. School facilities remain closed through at least May 31st, and playgrounds will remain closed until further notice. The tennis courts will reopen immediately for public use as will the North Middle School track for walking and running. We will continue to communicate changes as they occur.
🔴 This Friday is School Lunch Hero Day, as well as Principal Appreciation Day. We encourage you to share a note of appreciation or a word of thanks with those who have been working so hard to meet the needs of our students.

These are challenging times, and we care about the welfare of you and your family. If your family is in need of resources, please complete the survey sent out by your building principal on April 15th. #HarrisburgStrong #InThisTogether
How are our Tigers making the most of their day? 🐾Message us a picture by the end of the day and we'll share them tomorrow. #WhatchaDoinWednesday
There will be some changes to the Grab & Go meals over the next couple of weeks. During that time, we will transition some items served over to heat-and-eat products such as breakfast sandwiches, cheese omelets, chicken nuggets, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and popcorn chicken. All of these items can be heated in the microwave and instructions are on a small label that has been placed in the bag. We will continue to have Uncrustables peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as a daily option in addition to the heat and heat lunch items.
The 2020 Census is happening now. You can complete your questionnaire online, by phone, or by mail. It's quick and easy! https://my2020census.gov/
Let's give a shout out to our teachers, custodial staff, child nutrition staff, technology staff, support staff and everyone else who is working so hard to keep our children learning, safe and fed!

Attention all South Middle School Parents and Guardians:
Locker pick up is TODAY at the South Middle School from 7am-3pm. After cleaning out lockers yesterday, there were only one or two students without something to pick up, so expect that your student has a bag to pick up. All items MUST be picked up by 3pm today. Thank you!
While many South Dakotans stay home during coronavirus, there will be tens of thousands of people who will head to work to keep essential services functioning smoothly for everyone. This week, we recognize the following services. 🧹🔧📦🐕♻️
Whether you are staying home to keep you and your family healthy, or working to provide services essential to keep our community operating, THANK YOU!
As parents, there are times our children drive us crazy! In this time of rapid change and, for most of us, some kind of confinement at home, this can be especially true. Getting through the day can become tense, and we can be unsure about how to discipline our children.
Join this free web-based meeting with Randy Sprick. Randy is a parent (and yes, sometimes his children drive him crazy), a grandparent, and a world leader in effective behavior management. His presentation will cover things you can do to help your children learn to behave better and become more independent and responsible.
