In every school, there are educators who do more than teach, they transform spaces, elevate experiences, and shape lives. At Harrisburg High School, that educator is Eve Langerock. As a teacher, librarian, coach, mentor, and district leader, Eve exemplifies what it means to create a supportive, innovative, and student-centered learning environment.
Eve’s journey into education did not begin with a lifelong declaration that she would become a teacher. Instead, it began with the influence of educators who made her feel safe, valued, and challenged as a student. Those early experiences, teachers who built meaningful relationships and created real-life learning opportunities, quietly shaped her path. What started as a practical decision to pursue education has grown into a 21-year career defined by passion, purpose, and profound impact.
Beginning as an English teacher, Eve developed a strong foundation in literacy, critical thinking, and student voice. Over time, her path led her to the high school library, a role she describes as the best job in the district. As librarian, she serves every student and collaborates with every department, positioning the library not simply as a resource center, but as the instructional and cultural heart of the school.
Under Eve’s leadership, the library has been transformed from a quiet, underutilized space into a vibrant hub of activity and belonging. Students come not only to check out books, but to participate in creative literacy initiatives such as Blind Date with a Book, Book Buffet, and Book Speed Dating. They gather for book clubs, Lunch and Learn sessions with community members, chess tournaments, and monthly activities that foster curiosity and connection. Some come to study in a welcoming environment; others come simply because it feels like a place where they belong.
Her impact extends far beyond programming. Eve works closely with classroom teachers to integrate research skills, citation practices, plagiarism awareness, discussions of artificial intelligence, and media literacy into instruction. She actively promotes digital resources, curates collections that reflect diverse cultures and languages, and ensures that students from all backgrounds see themselves represented in the library. Flags representing students’ home countries hang proudly, and multilingual and adaptive-accessible titles expand access for English learners and students with varied needs. The result is a library that is not stale or static, but dynamic, inclusive, and forward-thinking.
Eve’s influence reaches beyond the walls of one building. As District Librarian, she mentors and supports 11 other librarians, guiding budgeting decisions, strengthening collections, and expanding online access across 12 school libraries. Her leadership has increased the availability of books per student and enhanced equitable access to high-quality resources throughout the district.
At the same time, Eve’s commitment to students is evident in her work as a cheer coach. Since 2015, she has led both sideline and competitive cheer programs to extraordinary success, including multiple state titles and national recognition. Yet the trophies tell only part of the story. Former athletes describe her as a mentor who instills discipline, resilience, confidence, and heart. She celebrates victories, reflects on losses, and teaches students to set goals, persevere, and believe in themselves. Her presence extends beyond practices and competitions—she shows up for the bus rides, the team dinners, the volunteer events, and the quiet moments when encouragement matters most.
What makes Eve’s work remarkable is not simply the breadth of her responsibilities, but the depth of her relationships. Students choose to spend open periods in the library because it feels safe and welcoming. Teachers seek her out as a collaborative partner. Families recognize her as someone who genuinely cares about who their children are becoming—not just what they are achieving.
As a lifelong member of the Harrisburg community, raised here, educated here, and now raising her own family here, Eve understands that public education is more than a system. It is the heart of the community. Schools are where young people discover their strengths, form relationships, and begin to envision their futures. They are where educators quietly invest time, energy, and compassion into shaping the next generation.
Education, at its best, is about relationships, relevance, and readiness for the world beyond school. Through her work in literacy, innovation, mentorship, and leadership, Eve Langerock embodies those ideals every day. Whether in the library stacks, on the competition floor, or collaborating with colleagues across the district, she continues to build spaces where students feel seen, valued, and empowered to thrive.
In doing so, she reminds us all that the true measure of an educator is not only in awards or accolades, but in the lives forever changed by their influence.
