future teachers

Harrisburg High School concluded Teacher Appreciation Week in a unique way. As part of the celebrations, a group of students from the school took a pledge of commitment to the teaching profession in the school library at 7:30 AM on May 12th.

The occasion has been organized by Mrs. Tracy Kern, Educators Rising Co-Advisor and Family & Consumer Science teacher at Harrisburg High School. The event is aimed at honoring students who have shown an interest in pursuing a career in education, and who are committed to making a positive impact in the lives of young learners.

Several speakers from the education profession provided words of encouragement to the students, as they prepare to embark on their college journeys. The event is held by Harrisburg's own Career & Technical Student Organization, Educator's Rising. This group is dedicated to supporting students who are interested in pursuing careers related to education and has been instrumental in providing guidance and mentorship to aspiring teachers. We wish to thank HHS Prostart for providing a light breakfast, and USF Fredrickson School of Education for sponsoring the event.

The following seniors will be entering the education profession:

  • Elle Swenson - History Education - USD
  • Sabrina Haber - Elementary Education - Augustana University
  • Natalie Inskeep - Music Education - Augustana University
  • Elliana Wingert - Art Education - South Dakota State University
  • Monica Tschudy - Physical Education - Black Hills State University
  • Amaya Canter - Elementary Education - Grand Canyon University

As the world continues to navigate through the challenges of the pandemic, the role of teachers has become more critical than ever before. The dedication and commitment of educators have been exemplary, as they have risen to the challenge of providing quality education in these challenging times. It is heartening to see young students showing an interest in joining this noble profession, and the signing ceremony is a fitting tribute to their commitment and passion.

As the Harrisburg High School students take their pledge of commitment to the teaching profession, we hope it will inspire and motivate others to follow in their footsteps. This event is a testament to the power of education and the transformative impact that teachers can have on the lives of their students. We salute the educators of tomorrow and wish them the very best as they embark on this exciting journey! We are #TigerProud!
